Moving from Python Tutor
Your Python Tutor links and embeds work on CodeFlip as they are. Change the domain and they open on the same program, at the same step.
1. Change the domain
Replace pythontutor.com with codeflip.dev and keep everything after it:
https://pythontutor.com/iframe-embed.html#code=…&py=3&curInstr=4 https://codeflip.dev/iframe-embed.html#code=…&py=3&curInstr=4
That works for:
- Embeds (
<iframe src="…/iframe-embed.html#…">): change the domain insidesrc. - Links to
visualize.html,c.html,cpp.htmlandjava.html.
CodeFlip reads Python Tutor's settings: the code, the language (py=3, py=c_gcc9.3.0, …), input
(rawInputLstJSON) and cumulative. curInstr counts Python Tutor's steps; CodeFlip translates it,
so the link still opens on the moment you chose.
2. Or convert it here
Paste a Python Tutor link or iframe code. You get the CodeFlip version, short by default.

3. What's different
- Languages: Python 3, Java, C and C++. Python 2 links run as Python 3. JavaScript, TypeScript and Ruby aren't supported yet.
-
Layout: CodeFlip fits itself to the space it has, so Python Tutor's size and layout options
(
codeDivWidth, codeDivHeight, verticalStack, …) are ignored. Embeds made with CodeFlip's web component also resize themselves to fit. - Steps: CodeFlip explains every step in a sentence and shows a few extra ones, such as "Back in main" after a call returns, so step numbers differ from Python Tutor's. Old links are translated; new ones use CodeFlip's numbering.
-
Privacy: a full link keeps the program in the part after
#, which browsers never send to a server. A short link saves the program on CodeFlip so the link can stay short.
For new visualizations, open CodeFlip, write or paste your program, and press Share: it gives you a link, an iframe, and a self-sizing web component.
